Energy Saving Stove in Waluka Primary School

Danube International School supports Waluka Primary School in western Kenya. This picture shows the energy saving stove which Danube International School financed in 2008.

Danube International School Grade 11 and 12 students who visited Waluka Primary School in October 2007 raised over € 2.000 by auctioning photos which they had made during the visit and on safari afterwards.

This money was used to pay for an energy saving stove (which burns wood), so that cooking school meals can now be done more efficiently. Firewood is scarce and expensive in Kenya. The energy saving stove allows Waluka Primary School to economize on firewood, enabling school lunches for over 700 students to be cooked more quickly and cheaply.
The school recently returned with eight Grade 11 and 12 students. The students taught at the school and gathered a clear understanding of how different life can be.

For the current academic year the school is looking to raise at least €9.000 to finance the feeding of the students over the course of the academic year. Fundraising events will include discos, bakesales, bazaars, film nights, musical performances and auctions.
